The Artist’s Way Collective begins today. Week 1 focuses on Recovering a Sense of Safety.

For those who are participating with us, you can share your thoughts in the comments below. If you are using your blog to process your experiences, please leave us a link.

  • Home for the holiday weekend, so I did my reading and worked through the affirmation exercise. My post is here.

  • I just embarked on the Artist’s Way today, and was very excited to find others were doing the same. My blog post on starting on this path can be found at

  • I was so excited, I read most of this first chapter last week. 🙂 Plus, I knew I’d be super busy over the holiday weekend. Just finished up and ready for the week to begin but not so sure about these early mornings. I think they will be my biggest struggle through this study! Here’s what I think about this first chapter so far:

  • This is my second time going through the first chapter. I returned to it, being refreshed and even changing some of the answers to the questions at the end of the week. Struggling with my morning pages, but I know they will be beneficial. I have already started to think more about the time I spend wasting creative space time, just sitting and watching crap on television. I plan to play my guitar this week and eat healthier. Two pretty big things, but so worth my effort.

I have been part way through The Artist’s Way a few times, so the first chapter was very familiar. I have also been writing something like morning pages for quite a long time, but they are often filled with words for the sake of words just to finish the exercise, which often left me feeling burned out and down rather than energised and creative.

This week, as I was writing the pages, something interesting happened, which was that I really paid attention to the morning pages as a creative exercise and got out of my matter-of-fact voice and just wrote about what was around me. A completely different experience

Haven’t yet had a chance to work my way around to read the reflections of others, but I posted some of mine today:

  • I’ve blogged some of what I’ve experienced this week too. So far it’s been really interesting, especially discovering that I have been blaming some of the wrong factors for my lack of art-making. I’m looking forward to reading the next chapter but nervous that I only have one more day in which to fit an artist’s date and nary a babysitter in sight.

I’m getting a slow start to week 1 but determined to keep up. I have gotten into the routine of the morning pages and so far they are just a bunch of nothing, but am looking forward to finding what comes out of them over the next 12 weeks. I am also working on setting up my first blog to post my progress.
