The Good News is not first and foremost a message that gives one hope for the afterlife; the Good News is not first and foremost a message that one may have inner peace and tranquility; the Good News is not first and foremost that one may experience an ‘authentic’ life; the Good News is, first and foremost, a proclamation that the long-anticipated rule and reign of God has now come in the midst of human history. The Good News proclaims that we may participate in God’s new creation if we will repent and accept the new reality.” — Lee Camp in Mere Discipleship
I have a lot of experience and learning about leading a church community that emphasizes all those “is not’s” above. I feel like I’m out of my league when it comes to leading a church community that proclaims that the rule and reign of God has come and we may participate in it.
Feels like a good start.
