Since we’re in the midst of shaping a church community that is unique to our context, I’m always interested in seeing how others are doing unique work elsewhere. I’ve had lots of conversations with practitioners who are learning as they go, but now I’m excited to see how seminaries are starting to work out training for this kind of work too.

An example of this that has my interest is the new DMin in Missional Leadership at Northern Seminary. I’m admittedly biased because fellow Ecclesia Networkian David Fitch is directing the program, and he’s joined by Alan Roxburgh and Craig Van Gelder.

Here are some of the highlights of the program in the Seminary’s own words:

  • Affordability – Under $16,000 over 4 years that can be paid monthly
  • Accessibility – courses take place through week-long intensives here in Chicago
  • Structure – this is a cohort-based program so that students have the opportunity to form a “community of learning” as opposed to just engaging individualistically
