combining passion and service

Kids With CamerasThrough a post today on Flickr’s blog I was introduced to Kids With Cameras. Their mission statement reads as follows:

Kids with Cameras is a non-profit organization that teaches the art of photography to marginalized children in communities around the world. We use photography to capture the imaginations of children, to empower them, building confidence, self-esteem and hope. We share their vision and voices with the world through exhibitions, books, websites and film. We are committed to furthering their general education beyond photography either by linking with local organizations to provide scholarships or by developing our own schools with a focus on leadership and the arts.

What a great example of someone finding a way to use their passion, photography, to help this world move forward. Thumbs up for those behind this organization. All of us need to take note. We each have some sort of innate desire to improve what happens in the world around us, even if that is often in conflict with our often selfish ego. At the same time, we each have unique areas of passions which capture our interest and dreams. Imagine the sense of fulfillment you can find when you combine these two inner desires.
